England's Wonderful Women Cricketers
June 23rd 2009 16:55
It looks as if the English women are showing the men how the game should be played.
While the men are struggling in almost every department and trying their best to lose games from a winning position, our women are ruling the women's cricketing world.
The wonderful eleven were triumphant last Sunday, beating New Zealand by six wickets in the final of the world 20/20 tournament at Lords. They also beat New Zealand in the 50-over game last March. They also retained the Ashes last year against Australia making England's women the most dominant force in world cricket.
Next up is a five-match one day series against Australia, followed by the Ashes later this summer.
Charlotte Edwards, the captain, has said they are not taking any of the success for granted and would like to build on ensuring that this is the start of a golden era.
Maybe the MCC should invite the women to take over from the blokes.

I think the Ashes belong to the women - after all, it was two women who burnt the bales and put them in that weird and ugly little urn.
Hand them back, boys! It's just not 'cricket' the way you're all playing at the moment.
How about the women's matches not being televised? I find that an appalling state of affairs. We get a little news item on the radio, but that's all.

Yep! While the men agonize over how much they should be paid, how many bonding sessions they should have, and look around for their next fastest buck, the ladies just turn up, play, go home or back to their jobs.
The coverage given in the UK over the past few years has been more than merely disgraceful. There wasn't even a "highlights" programme on TV and no radio commentary. I only got to know about their triumphs when I read a small, almost insignificant article, in a Sunday newspaper. It was buried among a plethora of minor sports aricles, not even on the 'cricket page'.
It seems quite evident that to make the sporting headlines in the UK the sportswoman needs to be from a foreign country or a British no-hoper. Perhaps the women cricketers should hit the nightclubs!

How about a bowler in a bikini?
'Slips' could have a whole new meaning.
Bats[wo]men will have eyelashes a foot long so they can 'bat' them at will.
I'm not even going to mention about wicket keeper stance.
Though, TV coverage would be intense and the replays would be all over Youtube.
