Who will win the 2010 ANZ Championship - Part 4
January 6th 2010 10:21
It will be interesting to see how the Adelaide Thunderbirds go this year after losing Australian representative Natalie Medhurst to the Queensland Firebirds.
Medhurst has been an integral member of the Thunderbirds in both the ANZ Championship and the former Commonwealth Bank Trophy.
Often considered to be like netball legend and captain of the Australian Netball Diamonds, Sharelle McMahon, because of both players' skills at being GA. They are both accurate shooters and great play makers.
The Thunderbirds lost to McMahon's Melbourne Vixens in the grand final last year.
The Adelaide team will also play without Jane Altschwager this season, another shooter, who has decided to move to New Zealand to play with Central Pulse.
You would have to think that more court time was her motive since Kate Beveridge and Medhurst were normally the starting line-up for the Thunderbirds attack.
The Pulse has also finished on the bottom of the ladder for both years of the ANZ Championship.
Other changes to the Thunderbirds line-up include Erin Bell (Swifts 2008 and 2009), Sharni Layton (Vixens 2008), Jasmine Keene (Fever 2009) and new player to the championship Carla Borrego all hoping to make their mark in netball with the South Australian team.
You would have to think that the Thunderbirds would still be one of the main contenders in the competition with such quality players such as Mo’onia Gerrard, Geva Mentor, Natalie von Bertouch, Kate Beveridge, Emily Beaton, Georgia Beaton and Joanne Sutton still on the side.
Their only downfall this year is the lack of a quality shooting combination.
