I think this year's surprise package in the ANZ Championship will be the Northern Mystics. The Mystics have the most noticable changes with Jade Topia the only player to move to another side in the ANZ Championship. After playing two years with the Mystics, Topia will play for Southern Steel.
But in saying that the Northern Mystics have been able to attract some very talented players this season including Joline Henry and Maria Tutaia, both played for Magic in 2008 and 2009.
Tutaia, a shooter with the Silver Ferns since 2005, won a gold medal at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
Henry, also a Silver Ferns member and known for her great defence, will make it hard for any attacking player.
Jenny-May Coffin (Steel 2008) will return to the ANZ Championship this year, playing for the Mystics.
Coffin played for the Silver Ferns from 1997 to 2002, stepping up to a leadership role in 2001 where she was vice-captain.
She has been awarded three silver medals, two at Commonwealth Games and one at the Netball World Championships.
Coffin will no doubt be a strong player in the midcourt.
Larrissa Willcox (Fever 2008, Tactix 2009), Althea Byfield (Pulse 2009), Kayla Cullen, Bailey Mes, and Sulu Tone-Fitzpatrick have all been added to the Mystics line-up.
They will join Temepara George and Cathrine Latu, two highly talented netballers staying with the Mystics.
Others to remain on the side include Finau Pulu and Grace Rasmussen.
With this mix, can the Northern Mystics be the first New Zealand team to win the ANZ Championship? There is a real possibility.
On paper, they should have their best season yet. Will they live up to expectations? The team they will need to be able to defeat are premiers, the Melbourne Vixens.
