The pre-season tournament for seven out of the 10 ANZ Championship teams is now in progress but with little information. With only some coverage on the Netball NSW website, it is difficult to ascertain who is playing in each game, how long the games are going for, how is the winner announced etc.
The tournament concludes tomorrow and with only two weeks to go before the start of the ANZ Championship, it's a pity that the coverage is so poor. With so many changes to teams, it would be exciting to see how they are playing with each other before the ANZ Championship starts.
It seems Netball NSW, the hosts of the event, are only concerned about Sydney residents and the fortunate people who can catch a plane or drive to the venue at the last minute to see all the action.
There seems to be some major upsets at the moment with 2009 Premiers Melbourne Vixens coming second last in the tournament. But are their senior squad members playing or is it mainly all the young guns having a chance to get some court time before the ANZ Championship starts? Or is this a start to a poor season for the Vixens? I really hope not.
The Adelaide Thunderbirds have also had a poor start in the SOPA Cup in fifth spot at the moment, could this be due to the loss of GA Natalie Medhurst? The Queensland Firebirds are on top of the ladder, could this be due to the addition of Medhurst into the line-up or maybe the change in coach? Who knows because there's no bloody coverage. That's right, this is a women's sport and supposedly not deserving a timeslot on television. More interesting sports news is Tiger Woods' sex life. That's sport isn't it.
It is so unbelievable. Times like this I HATE being an Australian. Kiwis support their netballers just AS MUCH as their footballers. Why are Australians so bloody sexist?
