Round 9 Result: Vixens season now in doubt
May 16th 2010 07:27
The season of defending champions, the Melbourne Vixens, is now in serious doubt after they scored their fourth straight loss.
The Vixens have never loss two consecutive games until now and the unwanted record now stands at four.
If the Queensland Firebirds beat the NSW Swifts tomorrow night, the Vixens will be in fifth spot, something you don't associate with this Melbourne side.
Although the Vixens were competitive in this afternoon's game, the Adelaide Thunderbirds seemed to control the match from about midway through the first quarter.
Vixens co-captain Sharelle McMahon was impressive in a losing side.
The Thunderbirds beat the defending premiers 58-47.
Shooter Caitlin Thwaites continues to struggle for the Melbourne team.
The Thunderbirds defence was also impressive.
The Vixens have a much-needed bye next weekend and news that Natasha Chokljat trained this week and should be definitely back when the Vixens return on court in round 11 is undoubtedly promising but will it be too late.
The Vixens could now be without Australian Netball Diamonds player, Julie Corletto, for the rest of the season after she undergone knee surgery this week.
The Thunderbirds have another tough match next weekend, coming up against the Queensland Firebirds, in the battle for third and fourth positions.
