Round 8 Result: Vixens make ANZ Championship history
May 12th 2010 00:38
The Melbourne Vixens made ANZ Championship history on Monday night but not in a way that would make them proud.
The defending champions' mid-season slump continued with their third consecutive loss.
In an improved performance, the Vixens lost to the West Coast Fever in a close game, 56-53.
At the first and second breaks, the Melbourne side was in front for the first time in three weeks, but a determined West Coast Fever side with their famous never-say-die attitude were able to equal the score with the Vixens at the final break before taking the win in a nail-biting final quarter.
Uncharacteristically, the Vixens had more attempts at goal than the Fever but their shooting accuracy was down, particularly co-captain's Sharelle McMahon's.
The Vixens have another hard match next round, coming up against the Adelaide Thunderbirds, before their much-needed bye.
