Round 8 Preview: Vixens vs Fever
May 7th 2010 12:52
The Melbourne Vixens made history last week but for the wrong reason. For the first time in their ANZ Championship history they lost two games in a row and they are determined, in front of a home crowd for the first time in weeks, not to make it three in a row.
They're up against the young West Coast Fever team, who have been very disappointing this season, with only one win and six losses.
It's unknown whether centre Natasha Chokljat will still be out for the Vixens; ever since she's been out with an injury the Vixens have lost.
But there's still plenty of things in favour of the Vixens to win this match; they have star players all over the court including Sharelle McMahon, Bianca Chatfield, Julie Corletto and Renae Hallinan; they have the home advantage; and they've won all five of their previous meetings including the 64-50 round three win in Perth.
The Vixens need to shut down Fever shooter Caitlin Bassett to win the game.
They also need to win by a big margin to improve their percentages since they've now dropped down to third place.
If Thunderbirds beat Swifts and Vixens lose to the Fever, the Vixens would move down to fourth position. This is more motivation for a big win by the Melbourne side so they've got the best chance for back-to-back premierships.
