Round 6 Result: Where were the mighty Vixens?
April 26th 2010 02:20
The mighty Melbourne Vixens were just nowhere to be seen yesterday as they played their worst match ever, with the Queensland Firebirds flogging the premiers 62-41 in Brisbane.
Natasha Chokljat, out with a calf injury, resulted in a re-jigged midcourt for the Melbourne side.
Surprisingly, shooter Caitlin Thwaites didn't even take to the court, with rookie Kathleen Knott getting the GS bib.
The Vixens took the lead early in the game but the Firebirds put the pressure on to take the first quarter 18-13.
From then on, the Vixens were starved off possession and were unable to keep hold of the ball.
Co-captain Sharelle McMahon was even benched at half-time, being replaced by rookie Tegan Caldwell.
Brooke Thompson also got some valuable court time for the Vixens.
Most people expected the Vixens to win and remain undefeated. There was a lot of publicity on next week's game where the undefeated NSW Swifts side will come up against what people thought would be the undefeated Vixens.
It was reported that this game might break the world record for the number of netball fans in attendance.
