Round 5 Result: Firebirds make history
April 20th 2010 12:16
The Queensland Firebirds are the first Australian team to defeat Southern Steel in Invercargill and they did it in style beating their opposition 56-41.
The Firebirds were on fire from the first whistle with Steel playing an absolute shocker.
Steel made basic errors and had no answers for the Firebirds.
The Queensland side led 18-9 at the first quarter break and proved too big of a margin to claw back for Steel. This was the quarter that let Steel down.
Steel became more competitive in the second and third quarters, only losing by four in the second and three in the third.
They won the fourth quarter 10-9 but wasn't enough to win the game.
Impressive for the Firebirds was new recruit Natalie Medhurst.
With two wins under their belt, they are now in better form to take on the number one team, the Melbourne Vixens, this Sunday in Brisbane.
