Round 5 Result: Big blow to Vixens win
April 20th 2010 12:40
The Melbourne Vixens were able to defeat a spirited Northern Mystics 62-51 last night in Melbourne but it came at a huge cost with centre Natasha Chokljat once again sent off court due to injury.
It is expected Chokljat will have to sit on the bench in this Sunday's clash against the Queensland Firebirds in Brisbane.
Julie Corletto and Chelsey Nash showed no signs of their injuries, which also benched them last week.
The Vixens got off to a good start in the first quarter, leading the visitors 17-10 at the first break.
But they had taken their foot off the accelator in the middle two quarters, allowing the Mystics to come within two goals of the defending champions.
An impressive display of netball from the home side in the final quarter resulted in the Vixens taking the match by 11 goals.
They will need four consistent quarters if they want to win this Sunday against the Firebirds.
Co-captain Sharelle McMahon was once again a joy to watch. She was benched in the last five minutes of the match to give young shooter Tegan Caldwell a go.
