Round 3 Result: Magic shows they're still NZ's number one team
April 4th 2010 08:08
The Waikato/Bay of Plenty Magic confirmed their number one spot in New Zealand yesterday, defeating the Northern Mystics 55-46.
Although Mystics had patches of their brilliant form this year, they were unable to make history and beat Magic for the first time in the ANZ Championship.
Mystics' shooting let them down with the pressure getting to Maria Tutaia during critical times in the game, converting only 65 per cent of opportunities.
On the other end of the court, Irene van Dyk and Jodi Brown were starting to combine well. van Dyk showed why she's considered the best shooter in the world with a 97 per cent accuracy rate.
Mystics goal keeper Althea Byfield once again had an impressive game but her team were unable to capitalise on her brilliant defence.
In contrast, Casey Williams had a fairly quiet game for Magic.
Mystics need to make sure they do the basics right because they have the talent this year to beat quality teams like Magic.
