Round 14 Result: Firebirds fail to deliver yet again
June 22nd 2010 14:07
The Queensland Firebirds once again failed on their opportunity to progress through to their first-ever finals series of the ANZ Championship.
For the three years of the trans-Tasman competition, the Firebirds have just missed out on placing in the top four. In the first two years, they just missed out on percentage and they needed to shoot a lousy three goals more than they did in the final round action last year against the West Coast Fever. They won the game but the finals hopes were distinguished.
After a huge win over the Canterbury Tactix, all the Firebirds needed to do on Sunday afternoon was to beat the West Coast Fever. The Firebirds was the clear favourite in this clash. But, even former Firebirds coach Vicki Wilson was weary of the Fever's possibility of beating the Queensland side.
The Firebirds did not look like themselves on Sunday, there was no passion evident in their play and the body language on the bench told the story.
The Fever took control of the match from the start and although the Firebirds tried to stick with them, their intensity was just not good enough.
The West Australian side showed once again how they are developing into a future full of stars.
In the end the Fever won easily, beating the Firebirds 67-59, which finished the seasons of both of these Australian teams.
