Round 13 Result: Thunderbirds lucky to keep second spot
June 13th 2010 11:47
The Adelaide Thunderbirds were lucky to keep their second position on the ANZ Championship ladder, winning against the West Coast Fever in Adelaide this afternoon 54-45.
It was anyone's game up until the last quarter with the young Fever side unable to keep their intensity for the whole 60 minutes.
With this weekend being the second last round before the finals series, it was very disappointing to see the second-placed team play some very ordinary netball.
A lot of the bench players came onto the court for the Thunderbirds to secure the win and two points for the Adelaide team.
In particular, Kate Beveridge has had a very ordinary season. With veteran goal attack, Natalie Medhurst, moving to Queensland to play with the Firebirds this year, this left Beveridge in the new position of GA to allow for Carla Borrego to take the shooter bib. But there has only been a few matches this season where Beveridge has made any sort of impact on the game.
The only team this year that is firing is the NSW Swifts, all other nine sides are either still trying to settle new combinations or suffering from injuries.
It has been a very disappointing year in such a great championship. It doesn't really even matter who makes the top four because with current form one would have to expect the Swifts to win their second ANZ Championship title.
