Bec 1Round 11 Result: Real Trouble for Defending Champions

The defending champions, the Melbourne Vixens, are in real trouble.
Scoring their fifth straight loss this afternoon at the hands of the Southern Steel, who are now two clear points ahead of the Vixens and the Northern Mystics and in fourth position, the Vixens' woes continue with co-captain Sharelle McMahon bleeding her way off court with a suspected broken nose.
The Vixens fiddle with their line-up once again despite Natasha Chokljat returning to the court since being injured five weeks ago.
It wa thought that with Chokljat back and the Vixens only missing goal defence Julie Corletto that the Melbourne side would return to their winning form.
But that was definitely not the case. The Vixens were very slow off the mark in the first quarter, only scoring a few goals for the quarter, and giving the Steel plenty of turnover ball.
Despite attempts to come back into the game, their shocking first quarter effort resulted in another loss for them, leaving them now with five wins and five losses and maybe out of final contention.
With another two teams in coming weeks in the Adelaide Thunderbirds and the NSW Swifts, you'd have to wonder if the Vixens season is over.
They would be devastated after winning the ANZ Championship last year and in fourth spot in the inaugural year in 2008 if they don't make the top four.
It is definitely looking like their worst season ever, losing to the Steel 52-39.
This is the Steel's second consecutive upset, beating the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Magic last weekend, and is therefore coming into some brilliant form at the right end of the season.
