Round 10 Result: Question mark over the Firebirds' finals chances
May 23rd 2010 11:47
There is now a question mark over the Queensland Firebirds' finals chances after they lost to the Adelaide Thunderbirds this afternoon 53-51.
This was the Firebirds' fifth loss this season and are now two points behind the Melbourne Vixens in fourth spot and the Northern Mystics in fifth position.
The Thunderbirds were commanding right throughout the game, even when the Firebirds started their comeback, but the Queensland side's slow start proved too much to catch up on.
Carla Borrego continued her highly accurate shooting statistics for the Adelaide side.
The Thunderbirds are in clear third spot and with only a few rounds to go is now likely to make the top four and therefore the semi-finals.
It continues to look like a repeat of the 2008 ANZ Championship where Swifts were in first position followed by the Magic, the Thunderbirds and then the Vixens.
If this is the case the Thunderbirds and the Vixens will play in the must-win semi-final to move onto the preliminary final against the loser of the Swifts/Magic semi-final.
However, the ANZ Championship is still so close, that the Firebirds and the Southern Steel can still make the top four.
