Round 1 Result: The Mighty Vixens are back!
March 22nd 2010 12:20
Tonight's game against the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic was a true testament of the mighty Melbourne Vixens.
With surgeries to top players co-captains Sharelle McMahon and Bianca Chatfield as well as Julie Corletto during the off-season, the Vixens were forced to a less than ideal pre-season preparation.
Corletto was still unable to play in tonight's game with former Queensland Firebird Demelza McCloud coming out of retirement to replace the Australian defender after being called up to play for the Vixens in the past 24 hours.
Round one and coming up against New Zealand's best team, the Magic, one would think that the Vixens have a tough match on their hands.
Yet, in true Vixens style, they grasped the number one position on the ladder, beating Magic by the largest margin of the round, eight goals.
Remarkably, McMahon took out player of the match, starting off another great season for the Vixens.
