Queensland Firebirds Looking Good!
March 12th 2010 11:11
With Queensland Firebirds winning their first pre-season tournament, the SOPA Cup, they are definitely a team to watch this season.
They are currently the favourites for the 2010 ANZ Championship title, according to this week's poll on the ANZ Championship website, closely followed by the Melbourne Vixens.
I think we may see these two teams contest the final. The Vixens are out to defend their 2009 premiership title and have retained their star-studded line-up. Quality player, Wendy Jones (nee Jacobson) returns this year after suffering a season-ending injury about this time last year.
The Firebirds have undergone major changes this year; there's a new coach and plenty of new talent. Most notably is the addition of former Adelaide Thunderbirds GA Natalie Medhurst. Medhurst combined with Romelda Aiken in the shooting circle will no doubt be the combination to watch this year.
The Firebirds will have their first home game at the Gold Coast next Sunday against the NSW Swifts. The Vixens start their 2010 campaign on Monday night, March 22, with a tough game expected against Magic.
