Preliminary Final Result: Swifts season now over

July 4th 2010 06:30
After being the first team ever in the ANZ Championship to go through the home and away season undefeated, the NSW Swifts have now failed to make the grand final.
After a shock loss to the Adelaide Thunderbirds in last week's semi-final, the Swifts had to beat the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Magic this afternoon to make their second grand final.
Starting the first quarter goal for goal, it was set for a thrilling match, but then the Magic stepped up their intensity and had a large lead.
In their last game, the Swifts won by 17 goals but this afternoon the Magic turned this around to win 54-49 and their spot in next week's grand final.

An impressive shooting display from Irene van Dyk cemented the win for the Magic.
The 2010 season will now see a new premiership winner with both the Magic and the Adelaide Thunderbirds yet to win a title. It's set to be a thriller with an Australian side coming up against a New Zealand team next Sunday.
The Swifts won the inugural title in 2008 and the Melbourne Vixens were victorious last year.
