As 2009 draws to a close, it's fitting to reflect back on the year that was for the Melbourne Vixens and their captain Sharelle McMahon, who is also the captain of the Australian Netball Diamonds.
2008, the start of the new ANZ Championship, was a disastrious year for both the Vixens and their skipper. However, both had redeemed themselves this year.
McMahon, coming back from knee injury, showed the world why the veteran is still considered the number one player in the world.
Her speed, leadership abilities, shooting accuracy and physical and mental toughness are just some of the great talents of McMahon.
The Vixens, dubbed the Dream Team in 2008, showed their extremely impressive skills this year. Winning the ANZ Championship and having the most players from any other team selected on to the Australian Netball Diamonds team. They have also picked up some worthy sporting awards.
Mostly homegrown talent from Victoria, the Vixens show what this state has to offer and of course the great sporting abilities of our Aussie representatives.
Let's get behind Sharelle McMahon and the Melbourne Vixens as they attempt to be the first team in the ANZ Championship to claim back to back titles in 2010.
